Saadian Tombs

The architectural beauty of Marrakech is not only the palaces and mosques, but also the Saadian Tombs, formerly the Badi Palace. After the death of the first leader of the Saadian Sultan Ahmed Al Mansour Ed Dahbi, the son of Sultan al-Ghalib Abdullah, the tomb was built to house the remains of his father and the founder of the empire in 1546-1659, turning the palace into a total of 66 tombs, with 3 main rooms. The Saadian Tombs were sealed off and were discovered after aerial photographs in 1917 during the French occupation. They were surveyed and cleaned, and it was found that the tomb contained a secondary tomb of Lalla Massouda, an important woman of the Saadian family, as well as a separate garden tomb for the burial of over 170 loyal Jews of the Sultan. #morocco #marrakech #saadiantombs
