Visit the Thai Samakkhi Temple 🙏

Wat Thai Samakkhi was formerly called Wat Nuea or Wat Mai. It was located in Ban Mae Kuet Luang, Village No. 1, Tambon Mae Ka Sa, Amphoe Mae Sot, Tak Province. It was built in B.E. 2482 by Phra Khru Uthai (Khru Ba Moon), the abbot of Mae Sot Subdistrict, as the chairman of the construction. Mr. Chakkra Phae Ka Sa donated the land for the temple. Later, the faithful worked together to build a bamboo hut with a thatched roof as a shelter for the monks and novices to perform merit-making. When construction was complete, Phra Khru Uthai appointed Phra Wan (Khru Ba Wan) to be the acting abbot for 11 years. Then in B.E. 2493, Phra Tho Lor Kantawanso was invited to be the replacement abbot. In B.E. 2501, he passed away and Phra Boonchuay Sopako was invited to be the new abbot. After 9 years of ordination, he moved to another place. Later, Phra Sukham Suwanno was invited to be the abbot for another 4 years. He then moved to study in another province. In 1983, Phra Athikan Buntha Akkhawanno was invited to be the abbot for 8 years. He then disrobed. In 1991, Phra Amphon Kantawiro was invited to be the abbot of Wat Thai Samakkhi, where he remains until today. Later, his name was changed to Phra Athikan Thammachak Kantawiro and he was granted the ecclesiastical title of Phra Khru Methakijkoson, the second-class abbot of Mae Kasa sub-district, on January 3, 2009.
