Best chipirones at unbeatable price in Madrid—and maybe entire Spain.

📍Taberna El Sur de Huertas C. de las Huertas, 24, Centro, 28014 Madrid, Spain When I first walked into this restaurant, it looked a bit run down, and I wasn’t very convinced. But what drew me in was its extremely flexible menu, which offers a lot of items at half portion. So I ordered grilled squid (chipirones to be exact, coz Spanish have different kinda squid) at €6.9, and Cuban shredded beef at €6.5. Chipirones were chargrilled perfectly, and the green sauce was refreshing and flavorful enough (that of many places are rather tasteless/bland). From hindsight, the chipirones here are truly unbeatable, in terms of taste/price/portion: the other places in Spain that i tried served half the quantity at double the price. The shredded beef was mildly spiced and tasty but served lukewarm, and I found the fried chips great substitute for fries. Because of the overall pleasant experience, I felt bad for spending just slightly over 10€, so I ordered an additional moussaka at 4.5€. But regrettably, what I had was burnt and dry.
