The St. John the Baptist Church Museum

The St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Madaba is a testament to the city’s rich historical and religious heritage. Built between 1880 and 1883 AD, the church was constructed on the site of the old city acropolis. It was later recognized by the Vatican as a Shrine of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, making it a significant pilgrimage site. The church is dedicated to Saints John the Baptist and his famous cousin, Jesus. Inside, you’ll find a stunning mosaic of the town and a crypt with a crucifix representing the crucified Christ as well an exhibition about the life of bedouins.
