In Longmen – Kunming, there are pavilions, temples, statues of deities and Buddhas, and sacred objects scattered along the cliffs and rock caves carved by the Chinese during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. ⸻ Important deities and statues found at Longmen, Kunming 1. Stone Gates + Engraved Characters (石刻碑文) • Ancient Chinese characters, prayers, and proverbs related to Buddhism and Taoism are inscribed on these tablets. • Many are carved at the entrance of caves or in the passageways. 5.
