Nanshan Park in Lhasa, also known as the "Long Live the Motherland" Mountain, because there are four huge characters "Long Live the Motherland" at the top of the mountain. Nanshan Park faces the Potala Palace across the Lhasa River and is a must-visit free attraction in Lhasa. 🌞During the day, climbing Nanshan Park to overlook the panoramic view of Lhasa, taking photos with the Potala Palace and the "Long Live the Motherland" characters is a must-do experience for many tourists visiting Lhasa. 🌠At night, the four red characters "Long Live the Motherland" in Nanshan Park are illuminated, making them very eye-catching when looking up from Lhasa city. 🕒Nanshan Park opening hours: 🔹Summer (May 1st - October 10th): 8:00-20:30, no entry after 19:30, and the park will be cleared. 🔹Winter (October 11th - April 30th): 9:00-19:00, no entry after 18:30, and the park will be cleared. 🚍To get to Nanshan Park, you need to take a taxi or ride a shared electric bike. If you take the bus, you will need to walk 2 kilometers after getting off. 👣The altitude of Lhasa city is about 3600 meters, and the altitude of the top of Nanshan Park is about 4000 meters. It takes about 2 hours to climb to the top from the foot of the mountain along the stone steps. Then you can return a short distance and take another trail on the west side to descend; or you can walk along the ridge for a while and descend from the loop on the far west side, which is a bit farther and mostly dirt road. 🆓Nanshan Park is free of charge, but real-name registration and security checks are required. There are snack and drink vendors outside the entrance, and there are multiple viewing platforms along the way where you can take photos with the Potala Palace. There are also paid photographers and aerial photography services. 🧠You don't need to worry too much about altitude sickness. I personally climbed the mountain with a portable oxygen bottle, reached the top in 2 hours, and didn't use the oxygen at all. When I got tired in the second half, I just rested more. None of my friends had altitude sickness either. It depends on the individual, so proceed according to your ability. 💡If you have more than two days in Lhasa, I strongly recommend visiting Nanshan Park. This might be the highest mountain many people have the opportunity to hike. If you can reach the top, it is very memorable. 📷If you are short on time or not physically able, you can choose to climb only the lower section to the glass viewing platform, where you can overlook Lhasa city and the Potala Palace, take photos, and mark your visit. ⚠️Finally, a reminder: Lhasa is very sunny, and there is little vegetation on the mountain, so be sure to protect yourself from the sun on sunny days. Some sections of the hiking trail may be dirt roads, so pay attention to safety.
