Akagakiya is an authentic Japanese izakaya located along the Kamo River in Kyoto, near Nijo Bridge. It exudes the atmosphere of the Taisho and Showa eras, with retro tatami rooms. Specializing in oden, grilled, and fried dishes, the flavors are Kansai-style, light and sweet. It's a traditional taste that can only be found in long-established izakayas, truly wonderful and atmospheric. Akagakiya is a well-known old shop in Kyoto, having opened in 1949. Without a reservation, you might not know how long you'll have to wait. Although the menu doesn't list prices, it's actually not expensive, and there are staff who speak Chinese, so ordering is not a problem. We ordered quite a lot: duck gizzard, yuba, mutsu-yaki, pickled mackerel, grilled eel, karaage chicken, etc. Almost everything was great, and it paired perfectly with draft beer.
