Ginkaku-ji Temple

One of Kyoto's most iconic attractions, Ginkaku-ji Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Despite its name, it doesn't shine with silver but exudes a mysterious charm, embodying the simplicity of Japanese aesthetics. Both the Ginkaku and Tōgudō are designated National Treasures. The garden features unique sand sculptures such as the 'Silver Sand Beach' and 'Moon Viewing Platform,' made from Shirakawa sand, which is known for its high reflectivity and indirect lighting effect. The strolling garden, centered around the Kinkyo Pond, is shaded and offers visitors a chance to enjoy the dry landscape garden's beauty. Following the path up to the observation deck, you can get a panoramic view of the Ginkaku-ji area. If you visit during spring or autumn, don't miss the cherry blossoms and autumn leaves. After visiting Ginkaku-ji, take a walk along the Philosopher's Path, a roughly 2-kilometer-long walking trail next to the Biwa Lake Canal. It's lined with cherry blossoms in spring and covered with autumn leaves in fall.
