Funaokayama Park

#thingstodo This is Funaoka Park right next to this shrine. When you go up there you can see a nice view of the town. This could be a hot hidden spot in Nishijin area. This is the very origin of the name of Nishijin itself according to the history. If you go straight up north from the front gate of Kenkun Shrine, you will reach Daitokuji in 5 minutes. Funaokayama mountain ("Ship-Shaped Mountain"). Funaokayama mountain lies on the northern end of the extension line from the center of Kyoto as it was laid out as a control point during the construction of the old capital, Heian-kyo. During this time they had to decide locations and directions according to the rules and the method of Fusui ( Feng Shui ).Therefore, the location of Funaoka was designated as North with a guardin of Genbu which is a cross between a turtle and a snake.
