Kyoto Railway Museum

Japan's Largest Railway Museum - Kyoto Railway Museum If you are a railway enthusiast, you must not miss the Kyoto Railway Museum. Formerly known as the 'Umekoji Steam Locomotive Depot' (which we will introduce another time), it was upgraded to a large museum in 2016. The area is larger than those in Omiya and Nagoya, and it offers a lot of knowledge and interactive experiences related to trains, helping visitors understand the importance of railways in Japan. For those who love steam trains, you can also buy tickets to ride one (although the travel distance is really short, steam trains generally only run on specific days and tickets are hard to get) and send it off back to the depot (a short time before closing), making it a great half-day experience.
