The Gentleman of Pears - Chenggong Baozhu Pear

Known as the "gentleman of pears," the Baozhu pear is tender and delicious, and is unique to Chenggong, Kunming. In other places, it is "small and astringent." The name of the Baozhu pear is related to the eminent monk Baozhu during the Dali Kingdom period. Legend has it that Baozhu came to Kunming to preach and brought with him the Dali snow pear saplings from the Erhai area, which were grafted with local pear trees to cultivate the Baozhu pear. In memory of this eminent monk, this pear was named "Baozhu pear." There is another legend about the name of the Baozhu pear. After being replaced by Zhu Di, the Jianwen Emperor of the Ming Dynasty began to live in exile. When he passed through Chenggong, he was thirsty from the scorching sun. He saw large pears hanging on the pear trees on the hillside, so he asked the farmers for some to eat, and gave the pears the name "Baozhu pear." People spread the word, and it became today's "Baozhu pear." Wangxili Town in Chenggong, Kunming is the core planting area of Baozhu pears. Wangxili Town is Wangxichong Village. With a cultivation history of more than 900 years, it has developed into a pear orchard of 10,000 mu. Every March, the pear blossoms bloom, creating a sea of flowers. Every September is the harvest season for Baozhu pears. There are also hiking trails here, where you can climb mountains and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Wangxili Town attracts a large number of tourists.
