See flowers of every season at Makino Botanical Garden!

I went to Makino Botanical Garden in Kochi Prefecture. You can get there by taking the bus (My Yu Bus) from Kochi Station to Katsurahama and getting off along the way. The bus costs 1,300 yen for a one-day pass. You can go as far as Katsurahama. If you are only going to the botanical gardens and back, buy a one-day pass to Mt. Godai. It will be a little cheaper. I was planning to stop by on my way back from sightseeing at Katsurahama, but I enjoyed it more than I expected. Various kinds of flowers are blooming on the vast grounds. Since it is on top of a mountain, the scenery is beautiful and I think it is a place that can be enjoyed all day. This botanical garden is named after Dr. Tomitaro Makino, a representative plant taxonomist in Japan in the 19th century. There is also a memorial hall and museum for Dr. Makino, where you can learn about the doctor's life. It seems that it is also the model for the serial TV drama "Ranman" in the first half of 2023. There seem to be many visitors from outside the prefecture, and there were many people visiting on the day I visited. It is especially fun to stroll outdoors.
