#Kyoto🇯🇵 Joruriji Temple#

Joruri-ji Temple is located in Kizugawa City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is said to have been built in the 8th century AD and is a place for monks to practice and study. According to records, the first main hall of Joruri was built in 1047 AD. A small wooden statue of Bhaisajyaguru was enshrined in the hall, which is said to be the same statue enshrined in the hall today. In 1107, nine statues of Amitabha were enshrined in Joruri-ji Temple along with other Buddha statues.
 According to historical records, a large number of temples were built at that time to house the nine statues of Amitabha Buddha. These temples were built at the request of the royal family and other nobles. Joruri-ji Temple is the last example of such a temple and is therefore an important testimony to the flourishing worship of Amitabha Buddha and the Western Paradise at that time. The current main hall was moved here in 1157, but its origin is currently unclear. In addition, the current three-story pagoda was originally built in Kyoto, but was dismantled and moved to Joruri-ji Temple in 1178.
