A Pilgrimage to Ancient Bridges in Southern Anhui: Qing Dynasty Dengyun Bridge in Jingde

After finishing my tour of Zha Ji in Jingxian County, I originally planned to go to Jiang Village in Jingde, but due to the heavy rain and the long delay along the way to Taiping Lake, I navigated directly to Jixi. After getting off the highway at the Jingde County exit, I passed an ancient stone bridge—Dengyun Bridge. Jingde was established as a county during the Tang Dynasty. The county name is taken from the words "commendable virtue." There are many ancient bridges in the county. Chunyuan Bridge, Jiahong Bridge, and Huangji Bridge, known as the "Three Bridges Locking in Greenery," as well as the Lecheng Bridge from the Ming Dynasty, which was destroyed by floods. This Dengyun Bridge, also known as Dengying Bridge, was built in 1768 during the Qianlong period. It is a three-arch stone bridge, 69m long, 7m wide, and 9.6m high, with a clear span of 13m for each arch. There used to be a pavilion on the east side of the bridge, but it has been destroyed. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Jingde County. The ancient bridge spans the Huishui River, with a green mountain facing one side and the Anjing Expressway project construction site on the other. The contrast between ancient and modern times shows that the times are developing rapidly. The bridge is next to the national highway, and there are many large vehicles, so viewers should pay attention.
