Kagoshima's Bird-Watching Paradise

Izumi is Japan's largest wintering site for cranes🦩 From mid-October to around December each year, over 10,000 cranes migrate here to spend the winter, staying until around March. This area is considered to have the highest number and variety of migrating cranes in Japan, which is why "The Cranes and Their Wintering Grounds in Kagoshima Prefecture" has been designated as a National Special Natural Monument. Not only are the cranes here abundant, but observing them up close as they gracefully spread and flap their wings is an experience unique to Izumi. It’s a special winter charm exclusive to this region.
