Stay in a beautiful old samurai residence in Suiroku, Izumi City, Kagoshima Prefecture

I stayed here while working on a shoot in Kagoshima. The samurai residence that was also used for the filming of the historical drama Atsuhime has been beautifully renovated into an inn. The rooms are beautiful, of course, but the gardens, stone walls, and the streetscape with large plantings all create a world view that makes you feel like you've traveled back in time to the Edo period. It's overwhelmingly wonderful! Izumi is also a treasure trove of delicious seafood, beef, fruits, tea, and other delicacies, and there are many delicious restaurants in the neighborhood. The amberjack dashi ochazuke breakfast was also exquisite. All of them retain the style of samurai residences that are over 100 years old, and are a space where you can get a glimpse into the life of the "half farmer, half warrior" Satsuma samurai, who trained as a samurai while also working hard at farming.
