Huai'an Qingjiang Dam, a World Cultural Heritage Site

Built in the Ming Dynasty and renovated in the Qing Dynasty, the Qingjiang Dam is an important water conservancy project on the Grand Canal and a World Cultural Heritage Site. Its main function is to regulate the water level of the canal to ensure that the river maintains an appropriate amount of water regardless of drought or flood, so that ships can operate smoothly. At the same time, it can also prevent the Yellow River sediment from back-flowing and causing siltation. At present, this section belongs to the Liyun River, and the Qingjiang Dam has lost its original function, but the stone dam and the revetments on both sides still maintain their original style and have become an important attraction of the Huaihe Canal scenic belt. Next to the sluice gate, there is a sculpture of "Twisting the Gate," which reproduces the scene of opening and closing the gate in those years.
