A Permanent Memorial: Premier Zhou Enlai's Former Residence in Huai'an

The Zhou Enlai Memorial Site is located in Huai'an, a city with a rich history and culture. The site includes the Zhou Enlai Memorial Hall, Zhou Enlai's Former Residence, and the core street of Hexia Ancient Town. Zhou Enlai was born on March 5, 1898, in the courtyard at No. 7 Fuma Lane, Huai'an District, Huai'an City, and spent 12 years of his childhood there. The former residence is a single-story house with a wooden structure and gray tiles, a typical architectural style of northern Jiangsu during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The entire building consists of two courtyards connected from east to west, with the east courtyard facing Fuma Lane and the west courtyard facing Ju Lane. There are 32 rooms in total, recreating the scenes of Zhou Enlai's childhood study and life. The plaque above the main entrance was inscribed by Deng Xiaoping in 1984.
