🌿 Green Heart of the City: Victoria Park, Hong Kong

#hkonbudget Background Victoria Park (維多利亞公園) is a 19-hectare urban public park in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai District on Hong Kong Island. It first opened in October 1957 and is operated by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.  The park is named after Queen Victoria and features a statue of her, created in 1887.  Victoria Park is bordered by Causeway Road, Gloucester Road, Victoria Park Road / Island Eastern Corridor, and Hing Fat Street.  Why It’s Worth Visiting This park offers wide open lawns, numerous sports facilities (tennis courts including a main court that seats ~3,600 spectators, football pitches, basketball, volleyball, swimming, jogging, roller skating, bowling) and a 625-metre fitness loop around its central lawn.  It plays host to major annual events such as the Hong Kong Flower Show in March, the Lunar New Year Flower Market, and Mid-Autumn Festival lantern displays.  It’s also known for early-morning tai chi, weekend visits by domestic helpers on their days off, and community events.  My Impression Walking into Victoria Park, you instantly feel the contrast: the city-walls of skyscrapers around you, but inside, there’s space—air, grass, room to breathe. The spread of green under your feet, people doing tai chi at sunrise, children running along paths, flower stalls lighting up during the Lunar New Year—it all makes you appreciate how much urban life needs places like this. For me, Victoria Park isn’t just a respite; it’s a living thread in Hong Kong’s daily life, where public life, nature, and culture meet in every season.
