At that time, the mixture of lava, rock debris and volcanic ash cooled and contracted, and the rock pillars were still in a semi-solidified state. Due to the influence of earthquakes and regional subsidence, they twisted and folded into an S shape, forming the current hexagonal columnar rock group of the Wanyi Geo-Trail, which is simply a masterpiece of nature. ⛰Most of the rock pillars around the world are made of dark grey basalt, but the Sai Kung Rock Pillars are made of light-coloured rhyolite tuff rich in silica. The average diameter is 1.2 metres, with the largest reaching 3 metres. The area covered is 100 square kilometres, stretching from the High Island Geotrail to Leung Chuen Wan and the Kwo Chau Islands.
