Old-school Dai Pai Dong in To Kwa Wan

Chuen Lam Kee is really hard to book a table at. Suddenly had a craving for their food, so I obediently queued up. Ended up waiting for an hour before getting a seat 🥲. The To Kwa Wan branch is quite spacious and comfortable to sit in. With such high popularity, it truly lives up to its reputation. The small dishes are aromatic and served piping hot. Chuen Lam Pork Lard Rice (Bowl) The rice absorbs the fragrance of pork lard and soy sauce. Each grain is distinct, and you can adjust the amount to your liking. It's also perfect for Instagram-worthy photos. Pineapple Sweet and Sour Pork (Pork Shoulder) The sweet and sour pork is fried to crispy perfection with just the right amount of batter. Made with real pork shoulder, the meat is tender and juicy. The pineapple's sweetness and acidity are perfectly balanced, making it very appetizing. Western Chu King Chicken (Half Chicken) Prepared with a generous amount of fried garlic and scallions, it's incredibly flavorful. Paired with their special sweet soy sauce, the chicken is tender and smooth—even the breast meat isn't dry. Blanched Goose Intestines Fresh and thoroughly cleaned, with no excess fat, these are delightfully crunchy. Chuen Lam Salad Ribs Each rib is generously portioned and paired with rich salad dressing. The texture is great, but I personally find the pieces too large and meaty. I prefer the sweet and sour pork more. Crispy Roasted Pigeon Served hot, the skin is crispy, and the meat is tender and juicy. Clay Pot Lettuce with Dried Shrimp The lettuce is crisp and infused with wok hei (the essence of stir-frying). The aroma is just right, and the dish includes large dried shrimp. The lettuce absorbs all the flavors, making it tasty without being overly salty. Even halfway through, it's still hot and delicious. The restaurant doesn't charge a service fee or tea charge. For dinner, they even serve complimentary desserts. On the day I visited, they offered Green Bean Soup with Lotus Seeds and Red Bean Soup. Both were flavorful and mildly sweet. Everyone left with full stomachs and smiles. Truly authentic Dai Pai Dong flavors!
