Trendy and Adorable Dim Sum

Tsuen Wan New Town recently opened a new restaurant called Gaginang. As you might expect, it specializes in Chaozhou cuisine. When it first opened, the restaurant offered various promotions. When I visited, simply downloading the app and registering as a member gave you half-price dim sum throughout the restaurant (this promotion had ended by the time this article was published). Since it was such a great deal and the restaurant is so close to my home, there was no reason not to give it a try. The decor hasn’t changed much from the previous tenant, Tang Palace Small Gathering, except for a few paintings of “Gaginang” on the walls. On my first visit, I just tried a few dim sum items to get a taste. The Fresh Lychee Ball is shaped just like a lychee. The outer layer isn’t too hard when you bite into it, and there really is lychee flesh inside, which is quite fun. The Iron Plate Spicy Xiao Long Bao is called “iron plate” just in name; it doesn’t actually keep the dumplings hot or warm. The orange dumplings are bite-sized, with a fairly strong spicy flavor, but due to their mini size, the soup inside is naturally limited. The dim sum shaped like a little bird is actually a pineapple cake. The taste is pretty good, but the bird’s expression looks a bit puzzled, haha~ The bear-shaped bun is a chocolate bun. Be careful when eating it because the chocolate filling can burst out, which would be awkward if it splattered on your dining companions. Almost forgot, new members also get a complimentary cup of Duck Shit Aroma Lemon Tea, which is quite decent!
