A Journey Through Fragrance: Chinese Aromatic Culture Exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of Art

I have always loved the Hong Kong Museum of Art by the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront. Not only does it offer many free exhibitions to appreciate art, but it also provides a stunning sea view for free. Sometimes, there are even musical performances in the lobby, making it a very relaxing space. This time, I visited a special paid exhibition titled 'A Journey Through Fragrance: Chinese Aromatic Culture Exhibition.' The exhibition explores China's 'fragrance' culture, showcasing various incense burners, sachets, incense tables, and more. There are also many paintings and calligraphy related to the fragrance culture, giving visitors a comprehensive understanding of the history and role of fragrance in Chinese culture. Additionally, I particularly appreciated how different sections of the exhibition were accompanied by different scents. For example, the section on scholars and literati was paired with agarwood and jasmine, while the section on religious incense featured sandalwood and juniper, enriching the ambiance and leaving a lasting impression on the visitors. Although the exhibition costs HKD 30, it is thoughtfully curated. Plus, you get a small bottle of perfume if you complete a small task on social media, making it quite a good deal. When you get tired, there are plenty of seats in the museum where you can rest while enjoying the sea view. It's truly a high-quality weekend itinerary.
