Sea holidays in HK? Yes!

Just spent lovely 4 days in HK for sea holidays, it was an excellent break! Below is our recipe for HK sea holiday: 1. Stay in Marriott Ocean Park. Excellent outdoor pool facilities, located next to Ocean Park, which is a great place to go with kids. Hotel has relaxing breakfast till 11AM and excellent service, and you are just 15 min drive from Central. 2. First I recommend taking a lovely 5Km sea side promenade walk to Repulse Bay. This beach has a great infrastructure, clean water, plenty of sand, tasty restaurants, coffee, ice cream, even 711. Mid way you will pass Deep Water Bay, it is a nice smaller bay. You can try water there as well, but I recommend more Repulse Bay. 10km lovely sea side return walk with some good swimming and food would make an excellent sea side day, guaranteed! You may repeat this day, if you have few extra days;) 3. Next: Shek O is THE best beach in HK. I recommend taking Uber, 30 min drive from our hotel. Excellent sand and cleanest water. For 150 RMB you get two chairs and umbrella to relax on the beach - excellent service. I recommend a short walk through Shek O village and small peninsula at the end with great sea views, but after climbing some stairs. After you got hungry I recommend Cococabana restaurant right on the beach, excellent food and music. We loved Shek O a lot and if we had more days to stay, I would definitely come back again! Since Shek O is a bit far, getting back would be a bit of a challenge. So while waiting for your Uber, you can have an extra drink at Cococabana ;) 4. Stanley is not to be missed of course. First, visit famous Stanley Market, then see lovely historical buildings and the pier, have a lunch in one of cafes. We loved Pane E Latte, very hard to miss this place. Stop by oldest post office and then check out Stanley beach. It is smaller but also good for swimming and refreshing, after nice village walk. 5. Great thing about HK is that after you have spend a day time on the sea, you can have a quick shower in the hotel and take 15 min in taxi, then the whole HK with restaurants, skyline and nightlife, all at your disposal. Where else you can have a sea holiday with such a diversity available for the evening, hm? Speaking seriously, next time I would love to do more HK islands exploration, there are so many around! #planyourtrip

Mussel-Hunting Adventures at Shek O Beach 🦪🌊✨ If you’re up for a unique seaside experience, Shek O is Hong Kong’s laid-back coastal gem where the gentle waves and rocky edges invite you to connect with nature in a hands-on way—mussel picking! 🏖️ Start your day by strolling Shek O Beach’s east side at low tide, when exposed rocks near the cliff base reveal little clusters of wild mussels. Slip on waterproof shoes (those rocks are sharp!) and pack a small bucket for your haul. Mussel gathering here is a fun way to interact with the local seascape—just double-check the water quality before biting into your bounty. Remember, only take what you need and respect the local ecosystem! In between mussel hunting, snap insta-worthy shots with the dramatic ocean cliffs as your backdrop—especially at golden hour, when colours pop and the crowd thins out. Explore the old village lanes for pastel walls and quirky, weathered architecture: perfect for candid beach day photos. ✨ Quick Tips: Shek O is open all day, year-round, but tides matter! Check tide timings for best picking and easier walks. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water—shade is limited. The bus from Shau Kei Wan MTR is easy and drops you super close. Key Precaution: Mussels here aren’t regulated for consumption and Hong Kong’s water quality varies—so only eat them if you know it’s safe, and rinse thoroughly. #HongKong #ShekO #BeachLife #LocalAdventures #NatureExperience
