The Hohhot Great Mosque is the result of the development and innovation based on traditional Chinese architectural culture. It generally reflects the layout of traditional Chinese temple architecture, but the main buildings are connected by a central axis, and the buildings on both sides are not strictly symmetrical. The arrangement of entering the main gate and then the main hall in an inverted manner shows a flexible and unconstrained layout idea, which is a breakthrough from the traditional method. The Hohhot Great Mosque faces west from the east and is an independent three-entry courtyard. The temple gate has three bays, with a horizontal plaque reading 'Great Mosque' hanging above. Inside the temple gate, directly opposite is the back wall of the prayer hall. The main entrance of the prayer hall faces east with three arches, and there is a small platform in front of the door. To the south is the storeroom. At the southwest corner of the three-entry courtyard stands the Moon-Viewing Tower.
