The Yellow Post Office in Ho Chi Minh City

Saigon Central Post Office, Vietnam Group Tour This post office is located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, near the Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica. The building was constructed when Vietnam was part of France, in the late 19th century, influenced by Gothic Renaissance architecture. It was built between 1886 and 1891. The initial design of the Saigon Central Post Office was by Gustave Eiffel, the same French architect who designed the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. However, 23 years later, it was redesigned and rebuilt by another architect during the Renaissance Revival period, making it one of the most beautiful buildings in Vietnam. From the outside, it might resemble a train station, as there is a large clock above the arched entrance. Inside, the ceiling is also arched, giving a grand feeling. The building is supported by green iron pillars, similar to European train stations of the 20th century. The walls on both sides feature large, beautifully detailed maps. The post office is still in operation today, and you can send mail from here back to Thailand if you wish.
