Frederiksborg Castle

, known as the "Crystal Palace" or the "Versailles of Denmark," is located in Hillerød on the island of Zealand, Denmark. It is built on an island surrounded by a lake and was acquired and expanded by King Frederick II in 1560. Our first stop in Copenhagen, Denmark, this September was to visit Frederiksborg Castle. Unfortunately, the weather was not favorable, and it was still raining heavily when we got off the bus. Crossing a small bridge to enter the castle, the Neptune Fountain in the central square is a landmark. The fountain features a bronze statue of the Roman sea god Neptune at its center, surrounded at the base by multiple groups of statues. The water jets form a symmetrical pattern symbolizing Denmark’s status as a Baltic Sea power in the 17th century and is praised as "the castle’s most dazzling attraction." Next, the 92-meter-high spire of the Royal Chapel is the visual focal point of the castle complex. The chapel served as the coronation site for the Danish royal family from the 17th to the 19th century and still hosts important royal events such as weddings. Currently, the castle also houses the Danish National History Museum, founded in 1878 by J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg Brewery. The museum holds royal treasures spanning 500 years of Danish history. Due to limited time, we only viewed the exterior. The castle’s Baroque garden is not only beautiful but also large in scale, making it worth a visit. The castle embodies architectural and artistic achievements and is a symbol of Danish national identity and cultural pride, attracting many visitors from around the world every year.
