Suomenlinna

Suomenlinna is located off the coast of Helsinki and was listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 1991. It is very easy to get to Suomenlinna from Helsinki. There is the HSL ferry to and from Suomenlinna at the pier next to the Helsinki Market Square. There is a boat to Suomenlinna approximately every hour. Ferries are available all year round, and water buses operate in the summer from May to September. The boat ride from Helsinki Port to Suomenlinna takes about 20 minutes. Suomenlinna is a sea fortress composed of six small islands. The construction of this sea fortress began in 1748. At that time, Finland was part of the Kingdom of Sweden. In order to resist the invasion of the Russians, the sea fortress began to be built under the responsibility of Augustin Ehrensvärd. The fortress was named Sveaborg at that time. It was renamed Suomenlinna after the Finnish government took over in 1918. #Overseas Travel
