In summer, you can take a ferry from the opposite shore to enjoy the picturesque townscape from the water. ③ Hallstatt Old Town (Photos 4, 5, 7) The compact old town is incredibly charming and fairy-tale-like. You can join a salt mine tour and enjoy an adventurous experience. Start by taking a cable car up the mountain, followed by a short hike to the entrance of the salt mine tour. Inside, you’ll pass through tunnels, ride a cart-like vehicle, and learn about the history of salt mining. A highlight of the tour is the wooden slide, where you can even measure your speed—so much fun! At the gift shop, you can purchase salt as a souvenir, so don’t forget to grab some.
