Mount Iwate

#helloautumn Mt. Iwate, one of mountains representing Hachimatai region, has been familiar as a mountain of faith to people since ancient times, and it is popular with many climbers still today. It shows various scenes depending on angle of view. Also known as “Nanbu-Katafuji” (the Nanbu domain’s mountain with one side of the flank shape uniquely resembling Mt. Fuji), it is famous especially for its beautifully spreading skirt of the east ridge and the rugged west ridgeline. On Mt. Iwate, there are seven unique climbing trails. The feature here is that a variety of climbing experiences can be enjoyed depending on how you combine climbing and descending routes. From the top, a whole view of wide-ranging Northern Tohoku region can be seen. And the numerous stone Buddha statues as well as the Inner Sanctuary of Iwatesan-jinja Shrine transmit a tradition of mountain worship to the present day.
