The Accusation of the Karola Glacier

The Karola Glacier is located at the border of Langkazi County and Gyantse County in the Shannan region of Tibet, about 71 kilometers from the town of Gyantse. It is one of the three major continental glaciers in Tibet and the eastern source of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. The massive glacier extends from the misty mountain top all the way to a few hundred meters from the roadside, bringing a cool and refreshing feeling amidst its crystalline blue hues. Although the glacier appears black and white in layers due to the year-round impact of dust from the road, the upper part of the glacier shines like a giant Thangka painting hung on the mountainside under the sunlight. Due to the filming of movies such as 'Red River Valley', 'The Battle of Gyantse', and 'The Song of Clouds and Water' at this location, the Karola Glacier has become quite famous, attracting many travelers to admire its magnificence and the charm of nature. Unfortunately, during the filming of 'Red River Valley', to create a realistic avalanche scene, explosives were used to blast a triangular gap in the Karola Glacier, which visitors can clearly see during their tour. As one of the famous ancient glaciers, this gap will never be filled again. What deserves our attention is that with the intensification of the greenhouse effect, the snow line of the Karola Glacier is retreating a significant distance each year. Whether the Karola Glacier will still exist in a few years is a very worrying issue.
