Driving north from Nagoya along the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway, I made a special stop at one of the most beautiful highway rest stops—Hirugano Kogen Service Area. This place is not just a pit stop but feels like a hidden mini attraction nestled in the mountains. The view is breathtaking, with expansive highland scenery that changes with the seasons: lush greenery in spring and summer, slopes painted with autumn leaves, and a pristine blanket of snow in winter. Beyond basic facilities, the service area features local specialty shops selling souvenirs like Hida beef products and Hoba miso.
