Wenchang Pavilion is a traditional type of building for worship in China, with many places having their own versions, but the number of deities worshipped inside varies from place to place. Generally, Wenchang Pavilions are square, hexagonal, or octagonal in shape. Guiyang Wenchang Pavilion is a unique nonagonal tower. Its architectural style is peculiar: the first floor is square, while the second and third floors have nine angles of varying degrees; the pavilion has 81 beams and 54 columns, all multiples of nine. The number nine in the I Ching signifies the utmost supremacy, representing a lofty status. Guiyang Wenchang Pavilion is located on Yuecheng, the old East Gate of Guiyang city, on high terrain. Climbing the pavilion offers a panoramic view of mountains, rivers, and the city, with a vast horizon, making it a great spot to appreciate the scenery of Guiyang. Nearby is Radio Street, where artistic shops complement the old town's atmosphere without any sense of discord. Strolling through the streets, you can find both trendy cafes and smoky barbecue joints; both artistic youths indulging in small taverns and old men playing chess by the street.
