Shōbō-ji (Gifu Giant Buddha)

#japantrip Impressive large buddha. 5 mins walk from entrance of Gifu castle. Small entrance fee. Not touristy. Opposite a pretty looking Jap western cafe Komeda. Free parking. Free sense of peace. The wooden Buddhist statue is great and worth the visit. The place is not tourist crowded. Bonus : the curly things on buddha head are snails that rest there to help shield buddha from sun and cold. It symbolises snail's compassion.
