Gifu Castle, or Inabayama Castle, is the prefecture's main castle. It is one of the most important symbols of the prefecture. The castle stands majestically on Mt. Kinka along the Nagara River, and was once the residence of Saito Dosan (斎藤道三), the first head of the Saito clan. The castle became particularly famous after it was occupied by Oda Nobunaga (織田信長) and became an important base for unifying Japan. In addition, the observation deck on the Gifu Castle tower, located on the peak of "Kinga-san" (金華山), offers a magnificent view.
