The strikingly colorful Fukuoka Palace Hotel, a design masterpiece.

Opened in 1989, the Fukuoka Palace Hotel was designed by Pritzker Prize laureate and Italian architect, Aldo Rossi. It is known as Japan's first boutique hotel. The building's iconic façade is composed of marble-red Iranian travertine and bright green chemically aged copper cornices, fronted by a large open plaza. The design draws inspiration from Venetian palaces, Parisian Haussmann architecture, and Kyoto's traditional Japanese temple, Nishi Honganji. The Italian architect's grand scheme, initially envisioned as a large-scale regional development project, blurs public and private spaces through numerous external walkways, aiming to create "new experiences" for both hotel guests and the general public.
