Date: May 5, 2024 Weather: Clear, with a gentle breeze Mood: A mix of excitement and nostalgia On this early morning at the end of spring and beginning of summer, I embarked on a journey to the Xiguan Impression in Fangxian, Shiyan City, Hubei Province, filled with curiosity and longing for the ancient streets and alleys. Xiguan Impression, a district that integrates architectural styles from the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, is not only a witness to history but also an ideal place for modern people to seek the elegance of ancient style. Strolling the Ancient Street in the Morning Light Upon arriving at Xiguan Impression, dawn was just breaking, and the ancient street had not yet fully awakened, which was exactly the tranquil moment I had been looking forward to. Walking slowly along the stone-paved road, the antique buildings on both sides appeared especially quaint and mysterious under the morning light. I felt as though I had traveled back hundreds of years, with every piece of blue brick and black tile telling a story of the past. Exploring Ancient Architecture: The Whispers of History Following the recommendations of the tour guide, I decided to start my visit with the oldest buildings. These structures, dating back to the Tang Dynasty and spanning the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, each have their unique features. Especially the guild halls and ancient opera stages with their carved beams and painted rafters, they are not just a display of architectural art but also a microcosm of ancient commercial prosperity and social culture. I listened carefully to every detail narrated by the guide, with each piece of wood carving hiding a fascinating piece of history. Street Food: A Feast for the Taste Buds As the sun rose higher, Xiguan Impression gradually became lively. Street corners and alleys were filled with the enticing aromas of various snacks and restaurants. I couldn't wait to taste the local specialties, oil tea and 'san kuai gao', whose unique flavors seemed to directly connect with the local customs of Fangxian, leaving a lingering taste. Of course, a bowl of steaming rice noodles is also a delicacy not to be missed. Traditional Cultural Experience: Hanfu and Light and Shadow In the afternoon, I joined a special cultural experience activity—wearing Hanfu and touring the ancient streets. Dressed in exquisite Hanfu, I instantly felt like I had become part of an ancient painting. Strolling through the quaint streets, every frame I captured was a beautiful picture. Especially in the evening, as the lights gradually came on, the entire Xiguan Impression became dreamlike, and the night scene was intoxicating. Romance and Tranquility Under the Night Sky When night fell, Xiguan Impression revealed a different charm. Amid the dim lights, the sweet aroma of 'fu zhi' and the temptation of 'biangbiang' noodles intertwined, attracting every passerby to stop. I sat in a small street-side shop, savoring authentic local food, watching the flickering lights outside the window, and feeling this rare tranquility and beauty. After a day's journey, I solemnly wrote in my notebook: 'Fangxian Xiguan Impression, a place where time slows down, and the soul can rest.' This trip was not only a feast for the eyes and taste buds but also a touch to the soul, allowing me to deeply appreciate the breadth and charm of Chinese culture.
