2024 Dujiangyan Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Dujiangyan is located to the west of Chengdu. It gets its name from the famous Dujiangyan Irrigation System. The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is an ancient irrigation project that was built more than 2,000 years ago. Even today it is still in working order. Close to Dujiangyan, Qingcheng Mountain is also very much worth visiting. Zhang Daoling, the founder of China's homegrown religion—Taoism, came to Qingcheng Mountain to build a monastery 1,800 years ago. This place is the original site from which Taoism spread. Qingcheng Houshan—the rear slopes of Qingcheng Mountain—has lush forests with clear and pure air. Locals often choose to come here for a relaxing weekend.

In the next month, this ancient temple in Chengdu will be at its most beautiful.
In November, Chengdu will enter late autumn. In the depths of Lingyan Mountain in Dujiangyan, which is only an hour's drive from the city, the ancient temple will be breathtakingly beautiful! The redwoods, ginkgo trees, and morning mist complement each other, and you will be deeply amazed by the autumn scenery of this ancient temple in the mountains.
📍Location: Lingyan Temple, Dujiangyan, Chengdu.
🚗Transportation: It takes about 1 hour to drive from downtown Chengdu, and you can park directly in the parking lot of Lingyan Temple.
The forest on Lingyan Mountain is lush in summer, and it is green and dripping. However, when it comes to late autumn, it changes completely, with colorful colors, as if nature has overturned the paint bucket. Especially from the aerial view, it is simply beautiful to the extreme! I went to Lingyan Temple last week. At present, the water fir has begun to turn yellow, and most of the ginkgo trees are still yellow and green. According to this trend, it is expected that in the next November, it will be the most beautiful moment here, which is really exciting! It is best to go to Lingyan Temple in the early morning. If you encounter fog, you will understand what a fairyland is.

Sichuan | Dujiangyan | A water conservancy legend and a treasure of the Land of Abundance.
On the charming land of Sichuan, there is a place called Dujiangyan. It is like a dazzling pearl, shining with the brilliance of history and nature.
Dujiangyan, a water conservancy project with a history of more than 2,000 years, is a crystallization of human wisdom. It cleverly uses the terrain and water flow to tame the surging water of the Minjiang River, making it nourish the fertile land of the Chengdu Plain. Since then, the Chengdu Plain, which was once plagued by drought and flood, has become the Land of Abundance, where "water and drought are controlled by man, and there is no hunger or famine."
Walking in Dujiangyan, you can feel the weight of history. The ancient dams and rushing water seem to tell the story of the diligence and wisdom of the ancients. The Fish Mouth, Feisha Weir, and Baopingkou, these ingenious designs, have withstood the test of time and still play an important role.
Not only is there a spectacular water conservancy project here, but there is also picturesque natural scenery. The green mountains and clear waters are surrounded by fresh and pleasant air. Walking along the river, listening to the sound of the surging river, feeling the comfort of the breeze on your face, it is refreshing.
Dujiangyan, Sichuan, a place that has witnessed historical changes and carries human wisdom. Its charm lies not only in its great water conservancy project, but also in its cultural heritage and natural beauty. Come here, feel the legend of a thousand years, and appreciate the unique charm of the treasure of the Land of Abundance.

First time visiting Dujiangyan, please copy this day tour route
💕 As the backyard and summer resort of Chengdu people, it is strongly recommended that those who travel to Chengdu should definitely reserve a day for Dujiangyan. Compared to Chengdu, this place is more fun and the scenery is more beautiful. Here, you can not only see cute giant and red pandas, but also retro and artistic streets, as well as the cool and pleasant evening breeze at Nanqiao. 💕
🚏 Route: Chengdu - Panda Valley - Yingtianwo Square - Guanxian Ancient City - Wenmiao Street/Wenmiao Mountain Street - West Street/Ming City Wall - Nanqiao - Chengdu
🚄 Chengdu - Dujiangyan: You can take a 30-minute bullet train from Xipu to Lidui Park Station, or take a tourist bus from Chunxi Road.
📍 Panda Valley:
Compared to the Panda Base in Chengdu, the environment here is more natural and primitive. There are more than 10 giant pandas and more than 20 red pandas in the park. You can see all the pandas by following the scenic route, but the red pandas are at the innermost part, so whether you can see them depends on your luck. Remember to book tickets in advance, 55r/person.
📍 Yingtianwo Square:
There is a huge selfie panda here, which is a must-visit spot in Dujiangyan. You can take photos like Dilraba Dilmurat. Moreover, it is very close to Lidui Park Station, and only 200 meters away from Xuanhua Gate of Guanxian Ancient City.
📍 Guanxian Ancient City:
This ancient city of Guanxian was built during the Northern and Southern Dynasties and is an ancient city that has accompanied the thousand-year-old Dujiangyan. It retains many buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Today, the ancient city serves as a supporting facility for the Dujiangyan Scenic Area, with many delicious foods and interesting shops inside.
📍 Wenmiao Street/Wenmiao Mountain Street:
Wenmiao Street is lined with antique ornaments, and there are three big characters "Dujiangyan" which are great for photos. At the end of the street, there is a cultural and creative shop, which is also great for photos. Wenmiao Mountain Street has many unique coffee shops, and Li Coffee at the corner is very popular.
📍 West Street/Ming City Wall:
West Street, built along the mountain, is the starting point of the Guansong Tea Horse Road. It still retains the old Chengdu style, with various foods and many artistic shops, making it very suitable for leisurely strolling and experiencing its unique charm.
📍 Nanqiao:
Nanqiao is an important passage connecting the ancient city and the Dujiangyan Scenic Area. The bridge corridor is designed in the style of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. At night, the breeze with water vapor gently blows, which is very cool. Under the lights, the water appears light blue, which is what people call "blue tears". It's really beautiful.
🏕 Surrounding attractions: Dujiangyan Scenic Area, Qingcheng Mountain, Zhongshu Pavilion, these attractions are also worth visiting.
Not New Zealand, but Chengdu! A Hobbit house from a fairy tale!
1.5 hours by car from downtown Chengdu
I found a Hobbit house in Dujiangyan that only exists in fairy tales
Someone really turned a fairy tale into reality
-
The garden is full of flowers and plants
Each house is painted in color
Round houses and windows, even the stone steps are round
The moment I stepped in here, it really felt like I had entered a fairy tale world!!
-
The chairs on the desk in the house are smaller than normal size
Sitting on it feels like sitting in a dwarf's house
Hahahaha! What an interesting setting~
There is also an exclusive private soup behind each hut
-
Here is surrounded by forests
There is also a trail for walking behind the homestay
There is also a bar on the fourth floor of the homestay
Very close to the front and back of Qingcheng Mountain
Really stay for a few days and you won't feel tired at all!!

🚇 Take the Chengdu subway to Xipu Station, Exit A1
Transfer to the tourist bus line to Lidui Park Station (10 yuan)
⚠️ It is recommended to visit Panda Valley first (take the tourist bus directly to Panda Valley from Lidui Park), then take the tourist bus line back to Lidui Park Station, and start Citywalk from Yangtianwo Square
-
🌟 Tour route:
1️⃣ Yangtianwo Square
Get off at Lidui Park Station and you will see the same giant panda as Dilraba's selfie! Start taking photos as soon as you get off the bus. You can stand on the head of the panda and take photos in the same pose as the panda, or you can take photos on the stairs of the panda's head.
2️⃣ Guanxian Ancient City Xuanhua Gate
Yangtianwo Square is diagonally across the street from the Xuanhua Gate of Guanxian Ancient City.
3️⃣ Guanxian Ancient City
Once you enter through the Xuanhua Gate, you are in Guanxian Ancient City. There are many shops and restaurants along the way. You will pass through Baifu Gate and the Water Conservancy Office Ruins.
4️⃣ Yuelu Mountain
Walk forward from the Water Conservancy Office and you will reach Yuelu Mountain (take this route to Dujiangyan Scenic Area). The City God Temple is also on the mountain. If you don't want to go, you can walk towards Wenmiao Street on the right.
5️⃣ Wenmiao Street
There are many second-hand items on display along the way, which feels like the 1980s. Walk down Wenmiao Street and pass by Wenmiao. The red wall outside is also a great place to take photos! You can also visit Wenmiao. There is no entrance fee. There are shops and noodle restaurants with Dujiangyan stickers on the opposite side.
6️⃣ Wenmiaoshan Street
Take a break and have a cup of coffee here. Li coffee, where many people take photos, is at the end of Wenmiao Street.
7️⃣ Nanjie➡️ Xijie
At the intersection of Nanxi Street, there is a 200-meter-long ancient city wall - Ming City Wall. You can also overlook the ancient city from the wall.
8️⃣ Langqiao
The lights turn on at 7:00 every day. The Langqiao at night is completely different from the Langqiao during the day. It's so beautiful! It looks green to the naked eye, but it's blue when you take photos with your phone. It's really amazing!
9️⃣ Yangheliu Snack Street (Lou Wai Lou Snack Street)
A night market street with tons of snacks! It's all in one place!
-
That's the end of the day's itinerary. If you want to return to Chengdu, take a car🚗 from Lidui Park.
If you don't want to return, you can find a hotel in Guanxian Ancient City and continue to have fun the next day!

Just got back! Current situation of Qingcheng Back Mountain! Decide whether to come after reading
🌿Qingcheng Back Mountain, as the backyard of Chengdu, is also a summer resort! 📝Please accept this detailed guide of an easy hiking route made by locals!
Hiking routes of Qingcheng Back Mountain:
Small Loop:
Taian Ancient Town——Wulong Valley——Longyin Plank Road——Youyicun——Jinli Cableway down——Taian Ancient Town (This is the route we took. Normally it takes more than two hours, but with the weekend crowd and taking photos, it took us about four hours)
.
Medium Loop:
Taian Ancient Town——Feiquan Valley——Baiyun Ancient Village——Baiyun Cableway down——Wulong Valley——Taian Ancient Town
.
Large Loop:
Taian Ancient Town——Wulong Valley——Longyin Plank Road——Youyicun——Baiyun Temple——Cuiying Lake——Feiquan Valley——Taian Ancient Town
.
Personal suggestion:
For beginners or those who want to take photos, take the small loop. The Longyin Plank Road section is the most beautiful, and there are many small waterfalls in Wulong Valley. The scenery behind is not as good. For hardcore hiking enthusiasts, you can complete the large loop.
.
Transportation:
Self-driving🚗 can directly navigate to Taian Ancient Town parking lot🅿️. Really come early on weekends. We checked the map at around ten o'clock, and the road outside was already seriously congested. When we went out at one o'clock, we also found that it was very congested outside.
Public transportation: First take the train from Xipu Station🚄 to Qingchengshan Station, then take the minibus at the station next to Qingchengshan Station to the back mountain, directly to the entrance of Taian Ancient Town.
.
Other Tips:
1. There are snacks sold along the hiking route, and you can also bring some water and snacks yourself.
2. There are not many toilets, so try to drink less water.

Chengdu Hogwarts & Inception Bookstore Zhong Shuge 📚
#bookstoresandgalleries
Magic is a must-have label for Zhong Shuge
There is an infinite sense of space when you enter.
It seems to have come to Hogwarts College in Harry Potter. * Super magical "Inception Space" All kinds of interspersed arched doorways and rotating stairs stroll among them, as if they had lost time and space.
Venue: Zhong Shuge, 2nd floor, Rongchuangmao, Dujiangyan (Sunachuangmao Store)
Time: There are relatively few people from 10 a.m. to 13 a.m. on weekdays, and 14-16 p.m. is okay.
E-strategy:
After entering the door, go inside and look for the rotating stairs.
2 There are relatively few people on the second floor, and the view is good from top to bottom. Even if there are many people downstairs, you can grasp the camera position and capture good photos.
Photography equipment: wide-angle (no matter the mobile phone camera should be wide-angle) wide-angle
That's why there is such a magical sense of space.
A must in Chengdu! Chengdu main’s attractions! 🐼 Giant Panda Base
The China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda Dujiangyan Base is a post-earthquake reconstruction project in Sichuan Wolong Nature Reserve funded by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. It is 760 mus and close to the Giant Panda Habitat World Nature Heritage Area. The Base is dedicated to the conservation, research and education in the giant panda disease prevention and control, wild rescue, international cooperation and public science education.
The Sichuan mountains is known for being the natural habitat of pandas, and seeing them in the flesh is the main reason why tourists visit Chengdu. The Dujiangyan Panda base is one of the few panda conservation centers, and is located more than an hour away from Chengdu. The place is like a big zoo with many giant pandas, a few red pandas, and moon bears housed in individual enclosures. One major tip when visiting this place is that you must go there early or as soon as they open. This is because the giant pandas tend to sleep when noon approaches due to the sun’s heat. They are more active earlier in morning, and the chances of seeing them walking around are higher. The giant pandas are lazy, slow, have a huge appetite, and act nonchalant in the presence of people. You can only view most of the giant pandas from afar so it’s difficult to take a good photo of them unless you have a camera with a good zoom lens. The panda base has a souvenir shop inside, and there are many vendors selling panda souvenirs outside as well.
Duration: More than 3 hours
The main purpose of travelling to Chengdu will be visiting The Giant Panda Base.
All the giant panda was so adorable!!!

Known as 'Seeking the Way at Mount Qingcheng,' it enjoys the reputation of 'The Most Secluded Place in the World.' This place is famous for its natural landscape, surrounded by peaks, lush forests, and evergreen trees throughout the year. Mount Qingcheng is divided into two parts: the front mountain and the back mountain. 🚅 Depart from Xipu, Chengdu, take the bullet train to Lidui Park Station in Dujiangyan, only 10r, it takes just over twenty minutes.
(ps: Dujiangyan Station is a bit farther, remember to buy a ticket to Lidui Park)
.
✔️ Panda Valley, 🎫55
Opens at 8 am, it's recommended to visit in the morning during summer, as it gets too hot in the afternoon and the pandas might not come out or just sleep. If you want to go to Panda Valley, it's recommended to take the 7.27 train, and then take a taxi to Panda Valley, arriving around 8 am.
Here you can watch giant pandas and red pandas up close, especially the red pandas, which might come out to your side, super cute.
.
Citywalk area: from Yangtianwo Square ➡️ Guankou Ancient Town ➡️ Ming City Wall ➡️ West Street ➡️ Nanqiao ➡️ Wenmiao Street ➡️ Wenmiaoshan Street
✔️ Check-in at Yangtianwo for a selfie with the panda
After watching the pandas, take a taxi back to Yangtianwo Square to check in for a popular selfie 🤳🏻 with the panda, and take photos like Dilraba Dilmurat. The giant panda is really photogenic.
.
✔️ Stroll through Guankou Ancient Town
Opposite the selfie panda is Guankou Ancient Town, which has many special snacks, such as fried potatoes, fermented rice balls, scallion rolls, soy milk buns... The Ming City Wall is also inside the ancient town, as well as West Street, all great places to explore.
.
✔️ Wenmiao Street
After coming out of Guankou Ancient Town, you can visit the old street Wenmiao Street~ There are many retro old items here, great for photos and check-ins.
.
✔️ Nanqiao
The water at Nanqiao is really beautiful, and it's super cool to enjoy the breeze on the bridge. If you want to see the blue tears, you can have dinner first and then come back when it gets dark. In summer, it usually gets dark around 8 pm.
.
✔️ Dujiangyan Scenic Area
Dujiangyan Scenic Area is right next to Guankou Ancient Town. If you plan to visit Panda Valley, the schedule might be tight.
So for a one-day trip, if you don't want to be too tired or rushed, choose either Panda Valley or Dujiangyan Scenic Area, and spend the remaining time on the citywalk route above.
.
You can watch the blue tears in the evening, then 🚄 return to Chengdu~ The latest train 🚄 is at 21.55, so there's plenty of time.

Why visit Panda Valley instead of ChengDu Panda Base?
#solotravel
Visiting Panda Valley in Dujiangyan offers a remarkably peaceful and intimate experience with China's beloved giant pandas. Set against a backdrop of lush mountains and quiet natural beauty, this facility provides a stark contrast to the often crowded Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a more serene panda encounter.
Intimate and Peaceful Encounters
Panda Valley in Dujiangyan is less commercialized and typically hosts fewer visitors than its counterpart in Chengdu. This lesser crowd density not only makes for a more relaxed visit but also allows for more intimate viewing opportunities. Visitors can spend more time at each enclosure without feeling rushed or crowded out, offering a closer, more personal connection with the gentle giants.
Natural and Expansive Habitats
The enclosures at Panda Valley mimic the natural habitats of the pandas more closely than those in more urban settings. The pandas have extensive room to roam, climb, and play, which contributes to healthier and more active animals. Observing pandas in these more naturalistic settings can be more enjoyable and ethically satisfying, knowing that the pandas' well-being is prioritized.
Educational and Conservation-Focused
Panda Valley is not just about observing these iconic creatures; it's also an educational hub where visitors can learn about conservation efforts and the challenges pandas face in the wild. The center focuses on rehabilitation and reintroduction, educating the public on the importance of conservation and the role each person can play in helping to preserve these magnificent animals.
Why Choose Panda Valley Over Chengdu's Panda Base?
While the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center is more famous and offers its own unique experiences, Panda Valley in Dujiangyan provides a quieter, more contemplative environment. This can be particularly appealing to:
- Photography enthusiasts who prefer taking their time to capture perfect shots without interruption.
- Families looking for a more relaxed experience where children can observe the pandas without the hustle and bustle.
- Anyone interested in panda conservation who wishes to learn more about the rehabilitation and reintroduction of these animals into the wild.

Chengdu 1h| Listen to advice! Climbing Qingcheng Back Mountain might be easier this way!
| Listen to advice! Climbing Qingcheng Back Mountain might be easier this way!.🌿 Qingcheng Back Mountain, as Chengdu's backyard, is also a summer resort! Please accept this guide!
As a local, I have been there many times, and this time I have summarized an easy hiking route for everyone!
Qingcheng Back Mountain is actually a loop, and at the end, I have attached the loop map we walked!
⭐️There are two entrances:
Wulonggou entrance and Taian Ancient Town entrance, if you hike up the mountain, both sides are uphill!
On the Taian Ancient Town side, you can take a section of the Jinli cable car up, then walk to Baiyun Temple or directly descend from Wulonggou, which is more effortless!
📝Route Strategy:
Route 1️⃣: Wulonggou-Youyi Village-Cuiying Lake, return the same way, this section is suitable for families and beginners, it won't take too long, and the most beautiful scenery is also here, 🈶 many waterfalls!
Route 2️⃣: Taian Ancient Town-Cuiying Lake-Youyi Village-Wulonggou
We chose this loop! It took us 3 hours
Route 3️⃣: Taian Ancient Town-Cuiying Lake-Baiyun Wondrous Caves-Baiyun Temple-Reclining Buddha Cave-Youyi Village-Wulonggou Hiking the whole journey takes no less than 5 hours, and taking photos along the way takes 6 hours.
Taking the cable car:
You can take the Baiyun cable car up the mountain from Youyi Village, 30 yuan/person
You can take the Jinli cable car down the mountain from Cuiying Lake, 30 yuan/person
⭐️:
✅There are vendors selling things all the way up the mountain, so you don't need to carry too much, but even water is more expensive, as it's carried up by people!
✅The mountain roads inside are quite wet and slippery, bring a good walking stick!
✅Nowadays, there are quite a few people during the weekdays, and the mountain roads are narrow, so you can start early to go up the mountain for a visit! Travel off-peak!
✅For those driving 🚗, you can park your car in the ancient town, which saves you a bit of walking!
✅For those going up the mountain from Wulonggou, you can navigate 🧭 to Wulonggou parking lot, which is convenient, or you can park in the ancient town, and take a shuttle bus when coming down, 10 yuan/person
📍: Qingcheng Back Mountain
🚄: Take the high-speed train from Chengdu Xipu to Qingchengshan Station, 30min. Be sure to buy round-trip high-speed train tickets in advance, and don't buy the return ticket too early.
🚌: Take a taxi from Qingchengshan Station to the back mountain scenic area entrance, or you can take a direct bus to and from the scenic area for 30 yuan to the entrance, and there is also a direct bus on the right-hand side of the high-speed train station, with a 30-minute journey.
🚗: Self-driving can go directly to the ancient town, or you can park at the tourist center
🎫: 20 yuan/person

You definitely shouldn't go to Panda Valley in Chengdu
Because you'll regret not going sooner
Meat Gate will live forever🐼
I really love Mei Lan's chubbiness
She truly is the number one female star of Panda Valley
Entered the park just before 1 PM, all the other little pandas were asleep
Only Meat Meat was still open for an extended standby
Playing with water, posing for photos, parkour❗️
—————————
P1 Meat Meat posing with bamboo (leftover from the morning
P2 Meat Meat lying flat but can't push up (really super cute
P3-4 Sneak shots of Meat Meat, every single one is beautiful
P5-6 Oreo is eating, Oreo is now very clean
P7 Shu Xiang baby is eating, the small table is still quite neat
P8-10 Can't remember which two babies these are
P11-12 Little pandas eating is really healing
—————————
I really love giant pandas
The panda head🐼 is me
Both camera batteries ran out of power🪫
Although it feels crowded, I have to admit that it's still the easiest place to produce films
"5D" Internet-famous bookstore📚 This time I came here on purpose
Check in at the bookstore that is claimed to be the most beautiful in Chengdu!
The bookstore's design is very distinctive, very beautiful! But it doesn't feel very astonishing
The two-story bookstore is actually much smaller than imagined, mainly relying on mirror effects, and there is a bit of a gap compared to the one I admired in concept
📷Mirror refraction effect, suitable for taking pictures from the upper floor
Suitable for taking photos, and indeed suitable for reading📖
Because there aren't as many people as imagined, even the mall is empty
Many people come to take photos, like me...
Dujiangyan·Chengdu
You're so silly not to promote such a beautiful bookstore in Chengdu
I've been thinking about this bookstore for a long time
I finally made this wish come true
Dujiangyan Zhongshuge, I'm here💗💗
-
Dujiangyan Zhongshuge is known as the most beautiful bookstore in Chengdu, featuring a mirror design and a circular structure. The reflection effect of the ceiling mirrors is stunning! It feels like walking into a real-life Hogwarts, perfect for taking photos and checking in💯
