Daintree Rainforest

#australiatrip The Daintree Rainforest is the world’s oldest tropical rainforest, estimated to be over 135 million years old—predating even the Amazon! Its lush canopy, unique wildlife, and incredible biodiversity make it a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are no monkeys in the rainforest so it is very quiet. We walked through several portions of the rainforest and explored a beach at Cape Tribulation area, where the rainforest meets the reef in a rare natural phenomenon. We looked out for the cassowary, a flightless bird with a blue neck and a reputation as a living dinosaur. Fun fact: the Daintree Rainforest is home to 90% of Australia’s butterfly species.
