Driving from Lijiang to Meili Snow Mountain, I was captivated by this hotel along the way. The deep red Tibetan-style eaves perfectly match my aesthetic. The Jinsha River flows right before your eyes. LUX*’s French luxury and Tibetan local charm blend surprisingly well. I had an immersive experience of the romance of the Ancient Tea Horse Road. - As soon as I got out of the car, a Tibetan-dressed young lady handed me warm butter tea; one sip and all travel fatigue vanished. The courtyard is enclosed by Tibetan-style architecture, with exquisitely detailed auspicious eight treasures patterns on the walls. The central water feature reflects prayer flags, traditional yet fresh and vibrant—every photo feels like a cinematic masterpiece. - My room featured natural wood tones with a Tibetan-style couch, and Thangka paintings that enhanced the atmosphere. The best part was the balcony—sitting in a rattan chair, I could watch the Jinsha River winding around the mountains, with the distant snow-capped peaks gleaming golden. In the evening, wrapped in a blanket watching the sunset dye the river red, with prayer flags fluttering, it felt like time stood still. - Breakfast at Café LUX* was pure bliss. Mauritian coffee freshly ground and aromatic, paired with freshly baked highland barley cakes and sweet butter flower tea. French refinement meets Tibetan local flavor, starting the day full of energy. Lunch at Chongyun Pavilion Chinese Restaurant featured slow-cooked native chicken for hours. The broth was rich and included wild mushrooms—every bite tasted like nature itself. -
