It is affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences and is a comprehensive research institution and scenic spot that integrates scientific research, species preservation, and science education. It has won many honors, including "National Youth Science Education Base," "National Science Education Base," "Hainan Youth Science Education Base," and "Hainan Tourism Designated Unit." In the 1950s, in order to develop China's natural rubber industry, the "Liangyuan People" (the South China Subtropical Crop Research Institute and the Hainan Branch of South China Agricultural University) moved from Nanshou Village, Shipai, Guangzhou to Baodao Xincun, Danzhou, Hainan. With the care of Zhou Enlai and Wang Zhen, Hainan Tropical Botanical Garden was established. After nearly 60 years of development, the garden now covers an area of 100 hectares and has more than 2,600 species of tropical and subtropical plants from more than 40 countries, including more than 50 national protected endangered plants, more than 750 tropical flowers, and more than 1,000 southern medicinal resources. The garden has eight core attractions: the aquatic plant area, spice plant area, medicinal plant area, bamboo forest area, economic forest area, palm plant area, tropical fruit tree area, and ornamental plant area.
