Explore Zhaoqing Hall in Meizhou, Guangdong | A Fusion of History and Art - Zhaoqing Hall is located in Hounan Village, Baihou Town, Dapu County, Meizhou, Guangdong. It was built in 1917, covering an area of 3,280 square meters and a building area of 1,951 square meters. In 2009, Dapu Zhaoqing Hall was rated as a "Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit" by Guangdong Province, and in October 2019, it was included in the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. - The building is a three-entry courtyard with a hard mountain roof, combining mortise and tenon and beam lifting. All the beams and columns in the hall are strictly and precisely structured. In terms of architectural features, the roof decoration adopts porcelain carving, also known as Chaozhou inlaid porcelain, which is known as the three major decorative crafts of Chaozhou ancient architecture together with Chaozhou wood carving and Chaozhou stone carving. - Zhaoqing Hall, also known as Jingxiu Yanqing, is a group of Hakka residential buildings with a combination of Chinese and Western styles. It was built by Yang Yinyuan and Yang Junsan, the sons of Yang Jingxiu, a wealthy businessman in Hounan Village, in 1917, and it took five years to complete. From a distance, the white walls and black tiles are light and elegant, and the "four carvings and one painting" (referring to wood carving, stone carving, brick carving, porcelain carving, and mural) are exquisite. The colorful glass windows have a Western style. After more than 90 years of wind and rain, Zhaoqing Hall is well preserved and has become one of the important carriers for studying Hakka architecture. - The horizontal plaque "Ren Deng Shou Yu" is said to have been written by Chen Jiongming, the military and political leader of Guangdong at that time (then governor of Guangdong Province and commander-in-chief of the Guangdong Army). This shows that the identity and status of the owner of Zhaoqing Hall at that time may have some connection with Chen Jiongming.
