King Mangrai was the king who founded Chiang Rai. He was the son of King Lao Meng of the Lawa Chakraj dynasty, who ruled the city of Hiran Nakhon Ngoen Yang Chiang Saen, and Queen Aum Ming, the city lord, or Queen Thep Kham Khai, the princess of Wiang Chiang Rung. He was born on Sunday, the 9th waning moon of the 1st month, the year of the pig, Ekasok, Chula Sakarat 601, and passed away in Chiang Mai in 1854, at the age of 72. King Mangrai was the first king of the Mangrai dynasty, who unified the big and small cities until they became the Lanna Kingdom, which had a flourishing culture for over a thousand years.
