The origin of this bank can be traced back to 1880 when it was established by the Yokohama Specie Bank in Yokohama, Japan. With the passage of history, in the ninth year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1883), it set up a branch in Shanghai, China, demonstrating its early globalization layout. By the second year of the Xuantong reign (1910), the Yokohama Specie Bank carried out significant expansion in Beijing, specifically constructing this characteristic branch building at the northeast corner of the intersection of Yuhe Road East Bank and Dongjiangmi Lane. This area was originally residential, but with the signing of the Boxer Protocol, Japan occupied the area and built an embassy, utilizing the land south of it to provide space for the Yokohama Specie Bank. The designer of the building was the Japanese architect Tsumaki Yorinaka, whose ingenuity added a unique artistic style to the building. It is now the location of the new China Court Museum.
