Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, a century-old Christian church, is beautifully located in Chanthaburi. It is considered one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Thailand and the only cathedral-level church on the eastern side of Thailand. It is located on the banks of the Chanthaburi River. The current cathedral is the fifth one, which was consecrated on January 10, 1909 by Father Emile Auguste Colombet, a Frenchman, and was built by Father Perigal. Originally, the cathedral had spires on both bell towers, but during World War II in 1940, the government ordered them to be demolished because they would be bomb targets from war planes.
