What was surprising was that there were many traditional British homes around the hotels. The Savoy Hotel (now The Nici Hotel), where I stayed for one night, was a place that had the feel of a traditional British home. The floor was made of carpet and the creaking sound of wood when I walked was quite a refreshing shock. It reminded me of my childhood when I lived in England. The bathrooms were all dry toilets, so I had to be careful not to splash water on the floor.
