The Beauty of Ancient Chinese Jade

Location: North Hall 19, 4th Floor, National Museum of China Jade culture is a vital part of traditional Chinese culture. The National Museum of China showcases the evolution of jade through five sections: "Jade from the East," "The Majesty of Jade Rituals," "Exquisite Jade Treasures," "A Hall Filled with Jade Brilliance," and "Carving Ice and Jade." From its initial use as ornamentation to its role in ritual objects, gifts, and eventually everyday and decorative items, the variety and quantity of jade artifacts reflect the social landscape of each era. The exhibition boasts a stunning collection of nearly 500 jade pieces, a feast for the eyes. To better illustrate the distinction between jade and other beautiful stones, various mineral specimens from the Geological Museum of China are also on display. Finally, the jade carving process is explained in detail with text and illustrations.
