Beijing South Church - "The Oldest Catholic Church in China" is located on Xuanwumen Inner Street, Beijing. It was founded by the Italian missionary Matteo Ricci during the reign of Emperor Wanli of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1619). At that time, it was a small church called "Xuanwumen Catholic Church" or "Church of the Immaculate Conception," built inside the Shoushan Academy. It is the oldest Catholic church in China.
