Church on the ruins of a mosque

Andalucia Tour ~ Granada (Region) The Nuestra Señora Church was built on the ruins of a former mosque. The building was begun in 1529 in Gothic style, but only the apse remains from this period, as well as the side chapels with pointed arches and Gothic pilasters. The rest were destroyed by the earthquake. In 1531, at the initiative of the Canon Council, it was rebuilt to a Renaissance design by Alonso de Covarrubias and master stonemason Rodrigo de Gibaja. It is three stories high and has rib vaults and a cloister. The Independence Tower is divided into five parts. #2024TravelReview #SpainTravel #Andalucia
