National Museum Art Gallery

The National Art Gallery is located next to Phra Pin Klao Bridge, Chao Fah Road. It was built in Western architectural style by Carlo Allegri, an Italian architect of the Siamese royal court. He was inspired by a machinery factory in Birmingham, England. Its architectural style is as follows: the main building in the front is a two-story hip roof with a kite-tile roof. The two sides of the main building are long wings. It is a single-story building with four right-angled sides that meet in a square shape. The roof ridge, eaves, door and window frames are decorated with beautiful fretwork. Currently, it is a center for collecting and displaying both traditional Thai and contemporary art works by famous Thai and foreign artists, both past and present. It is divided into a room for displaying traditional Thai art, displaying traditional Thai paintings, which are paintings with unique creative methods that have been passed down from the past until they became a tradition. The main content is related to Buddhism, interspersed with stories from literature and the way of life of Thai people in the past, such as Phra Bat (traditional Thai paintings on cloth) in the Ayutthaya period, and paintings by His Majesty the King. The Royal Gallery of His Royal Highness Prince Narisara Nuwattiwong, the Chronicles of the Kingdom of Thailand in the reign of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, etc. The Western-Style Thai Art Exhibition Room displays works in Western styles created by Western artists who worked in the Thai government and Thai artists who studied art abroad, such as the portrait of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn painted by a Western artist using the printmaking technique. The Chalermprakiat Room displays paintings by the King so that the public has the opportunity to admire the wisdom and genius in creating works of art, such as the paintings by His Majesty King Vajiravudh and His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Art gallery from 1932 – present, exhibiting art from 1932 – 1967, starting from the era of the change of government system from absolute monarchy to democracy in 1932, such as the works of Professor Silpa Bhirasri, Fua Haripita #Waiting for the day to travel
